Greetings from this frozen tundra we call home.
The dark months are drawing to a close, allowing that glowing ball of fire in the sky to stay up a little longer and help melt away the white stuff. And boy, do we have a lot of it!
We are just coming off a long cold snap that had temperatures dipping to -40 for a few weeks.
It's hard to explain the day-to-day torment of functioning in that level of frigid. Our back patio door freezes shut for days on end. Thank God for the dog door. The vehicle screams and squeals when started—fan belts and metal parts grinding in motion.
Exposed flesh feels like it is being slapped hard by an angry Mother Nature, and your fingers are numb despite the mittens. Outdoor excursions with the dogs are put on hold, waiting for warmer days. They are just as squirrelly and restless as we are.
My husband and I have escaped the frigid mundane to visit my oldest son and his family in the far stretches of Alberta.
My parents flew in from Vancouver Island, and my youngest son and his wife have also joined us.
It's not Mexico, but a long-overdue warm-up has arrived, giving us temperatures above freezing. It's slushy, mucky, and glorious. After that cold snap that gripped central Canada, it feels downright tropical.
Five slow, warm, sunny days with family. Yes, please, and thank you.
This letter comes late due to this little family getaway. But as always, thank you for your patience.
It's been busy, yet super chill, with a full house and a full heart. I'm bidding you adieu, as we hit the highway home.
I'll meet you here at the end of the week with some photos of our time here.
Till then~
Xx
