Deep breaths and calming vibes. That’s what I’m meditating on these days.
Like an impending Canadian tariff, I’m currently plotting and executing my detachment from the news and social media.
My husband is a news junkie, so it can be a bit of a challenge to avoid the onslaught of current affairs. Manageable in moderation, but in light of this weeks events, it’s been a bit much.
As for the socials, I will be posting, of course. I have a business to run, and social media is an inevitable beast these days. However, I will be engaging in a slow of the scroll, for sanity’s sake.
Maybe it’s what we all need right now.
Happy Distractions
Some art to feast thine eyes and engage thine senses.
And for good measure, here’s a video of some beach birds doing what they do in Bucerias Mexico. The ocean sounds alone are worth pressing play because, -well umm winter- But the way these little guys boogie in unison to avoid the impending waves kept me entertained for longer than it should have.

Thanks to Andy at FlakPhoto Digest’s recent newsletter, I was made aware of and am now reading, The Creative Act: A Way of Being by Rick Rubin. If you’re reading or listening to it, too, let me know what you think of it.
Reading & Listening to
Also, I’m starting a quest to read some old classics. Some I’ve read, and some I haven’t. It’s my backup plan to divert my attention from all the other sick and twisted shit happening in the world right now. And maybe I’ll expand my literary prowess. I use the word prowess loosely.
First on the list is Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. The 1818 version.
Who’s with me?
Warning, I’m a slow reader. But eventually, I hit the finish line.
If you enjoyed this little read, please share it with someone. It would make my day and hopefully brighten theirs.
Hi there, I’m Tamara born and raised on the Canadian prairies.
I’m a super proud mom of two grown men. And my life would not be complete without our three unruly dogs that rule the roost.
I am a photographer, writer and storyteller. Mishaps and Milestones is 100% reader-supported. If you’ve gotten this far, thank you for joining me while I write about all the shitty and sweet, chaotic and quiet, happenstances this life throws my way.
This newsletter takes many quiet moments - hours - to write. Please consider upgrading to a paid subscription, to support my writing.
Subscribe for free or paid, the choice is yours. Either way you will receive a weekly Mishaps and Milestones newsletter with real-life stories, photography, occasional creative inspiration and recommendations. Monthly ghost stories, and plenty of midlife what the actual fucks.
I hope to see you here again.
Warm coffee cheers

Good morning
I am unable to get the bird video to play.
Could use some calming distraction these days. The news is disturbing.
